Phil's 2009 Race Report:
Nearly 500 runners ran the 10th Bearbrook 10k Road Race on Sunday. This popular race organised by Bearbrook Joggers Running Club and supported by Up And Running Aylesbury starts and finishes at Aylesbury Rugby FC in Weston Turville. This year's race was won in fine style by local runner Anuradha Cooray from Vale of Aylesbury AC, in a new course record of 31mins 22secs. He was some two minutes ahead of second placed, Nigel Marley from Coventry Goddvia Harriers clocking 33mins 16secs, who just held off third place Fabian Downs 33.32 from Chesham based Chiltern Harriers.
First lady home from High Wycombe based Handycross Runners, was Samantha Amend who clocked a very good time of 36mins 39secs, chased all the way by Vale of Aylesbury AC's Tracy Galbraith in a time of 37mins 54secs with Liz Hartney from Reading RR taking third spot in 38.41. Tracey's win helped the Vale of Aylesbury AC take the female team prize with Jodie Digby (40.12) 48th, Helena Smith (42.26) 79th and Sue Barnes (43.16) 147th. The male team prize went to Chiltern Harriers for the second year running with Fabian Downs leading them home followed by Eddie O'Gorman (33.42) 4th, Derek Brown (34.00) 6th and 1st V40 and Richard Quantrill (36.23) 14th.
The host club Bearbrook Joggers have for many years not ran in the race on the day as they are all needed for course marshalling and many other duties that make the race so popular with runners from near and far. However they will all have the chance to race the course in the club's internal handicap race on Friday evening.

Phil's 2008 Race Report:
The Bearbrook 10k Road Race proved to be another great race on Sunday: not only did it attract a record entry of 550 runners(race limit reached,) both the mens and ladies winners broke the course record.
The race which starts and finishes at Aylesbury Rugby Club and runs round the villages of Weston Turville, Wendover and Halton was this year supported by Up&Running, Aylesbury. It was last years winner, Steve Rees-Jones, from the Basingstoke and Mid Hants Club that broke the course record by 11 seconds to cross the finish line in a super fast 31mins 37secs, just ahead of David Wardle from Woodford Green AC who clocked 31.54 for second place. The lady winner, UK international runner Jo Wilkinson from Bedford County, smashed the ladies course record by over two minutes in a superb 34.28 which gave a great seventh place overall. At the finish Jo said it was a good course and a very well organised race which she will most certainly run again. Second lady home was Laura Cowley from Herts Pheonix in 37mins 07sec with Tamsin Neale from Burnham Joggers third lady clocking 39.09. Third man home was Paul Farmer from Ampthill & Flitwick Flyers in 33.4,6 chased by local Chiltern Harrier runner Derek Brown in fourth running 34.18 which gave him first place in his V40 age group. Charlie May from the Vale Of Aylesbury AC was fifth in 34.26 and his club mate Colin Steptoe had a good race to win the male V50 age group in 36.39. Chesham based Chiltern Harriers won both the male and female team prizes.
Organising club Bearbrook Joggers had very few runners since most of the club were required to make the race the success it was but they will be running the course on this Friday evening as their club handicap.
